Using Forums For Promotion

From day to day we are busy trying to promote our blogs with varying degrees of success. Dropping links here and there all the while building a massive advertising campaign without knowing it. As sites are crawled your links get picked up and added to the big G database and when everything aligns right you may get a hit out of it. Now a lot of people use the do follow list as a way to drop links on different blogs but have you ever thought of using a forum? Now I am not talking about spamming a forum with useless crap, I am talking about being a valuable member of a community. The first thing you need to do is find a good forum to become a member of. Don’t try to participate in too many forums, you will spread yourself too thin and you will get little to no benefit from it.

  1. Join a forum like the Digital Point forums or the Webmaster Talk forums.
  2. Add a link to your site in your profile and create a signature with a link to your site.
  3. Participate in discussions and provide useful information.
  4. If there is a question and you have an article that answers that question only then is it okay to post a link to your site while replying to a thread.

If you become a valued member to that community people will visit your site. They will come to trust you from what they read on the forums and will become a regular visitor to your site. Now you will only get back out of this what you put in, so if you make a half heart-ed effort you are likely to get the same results back. You also need to make sure you read the rules of the forums carefully and abide by them completely. It stinks when you get banned because you were ignorant or the rules (I got a 7 day timeout on DP for bumping a post).

  1. This is really helpful. I think from the 2 forums that I’m a member of, I get about 1-5 readers a day which is not bad I think for a starter. I hope it’ll grow in time though. :)

  2. wow its cool .. i’ve read article about get backlink from forum. how we know that forum dofollow or nofollow?..

  3. You hit a key point about participating in discussions and providing useful information. By creating your own interesting topic will also draw people in. When I read blogs, I tend to only read longer ones. I read blogs with substance and if you can only come up with “Awesome” as a response than you definitely will not gain trust. If you have an opinion stated it.

  4. It just recently started using CommentKahuna, a free linkbuilding tool using blog comments.

It searches related blogs relevant to your keyword. With your profile prepared you can easily post comments and do your linkbuilding. Since most blog comments are moderated, you want to make sure that you comment is usefull. This way you can make nice relavant one-way-links. You can also exclude from your selection all no-follow blogs. I can recommend this tool.
