SiteHoppin!
Are you ready for another Social Networking/Bookmarking site? Well here it is; SiteHoppin
SiteHoppin is still in beta but it is open for business. I went over, made an account and submitted a few of my sites, changed the skin of the browser and got to hoppin. Now the concept is fairly simple. It is kind of like another site (blog explosion) except you are not here earning credits for your site to be featured, as a matter of fact this really isn’t what it’s about. It is all about casual browsing. Ever heard of the term “bar hopping”? Well SiteHoppin is sort of built on that premise, just grab your favorite adult beverage, sit down, browse. Not very hard huh? You can just click the SiteHoppin button and be whirled away to a new and enchanted website that you never would have stumbled upon in the first place, or then again it may take you to some random site like mine where it may not be exciting or enchanted but you can glean a little useful information from the experience. You can also rate the sites that you visit from 1 to 5 beers. Now I am not really if 5 beers is good or if that is how many that it took to make the site good for you. Once I figure that out I will let you know 
SiteHoppin is built on the MediaWiki software package and for a beta I didn’t find that many bugs. A few that I did find should be easily fixable. The first was a dead link that gave me a blank page no matter how many times I refreshed. It didn’t even show the wrapper so that I could browse to the next random site. The second one that I ran into was after changing the skin to ycgu max I no longer had a SiteHoppin button.
They are also working on features that allow you to browse based on your tags, hopefully that will come out soon. I would like to see that implemented. It would at least narrow down the possible sites that may come up if you are in the mood to look at something in particular. Right now there seems to be 5,847 sites submitted so far but hopefully over the next few weeks that will increase. Always finding a new site when you click may be a refreshing change. I guess something about the randomness appeals to me. I will be keeping an eye on it to see how it does. Right now there are only 17 registered users. Lets see if we can increase that. It’s a really neat idea. The site seems a little roughly implemented, though.
