New Tools From Google
If you use Google’s Webmaster Tools then you may be surprised to see that the big G has released a new tool and a little more info for us to use on our sites. One that you may find useful is the content analysis tool. Here is their explanation of it;
Content analysis contains feedback about issues that may impact the user experience or that may make it difficult for Google to crawl and index pages on your site. By reviewing the areas we’ve highlighted, you can help eliminate potential issues that could affect your site’s ability to be crawled and indexed. This results in better indexing of your site by Google and other search engines.
Now I ran it on my sites and it didn’t come up with anything but I am going to give it a week to do another full crawl of my sites before I can give a complete review of it and how well it works.
The other thing that they have included is a Sitemap Details page. You will not see many more details than you are used to but this is the one detail that I found interesting;
Total URLs: 5
Indexed URLs: 5
Now that tells me (I think) that my sitemap is only telling them about 5 urls so of course that is all that they have indexed. I am going to do some more research on this and get back to you but if that is the case I guess I understand why my site doesn’t get much search engine traffic. I guess I will have to check into oit more and get back to you. If you want to check out the article you can see it here

This sounds cool in concept; but like you, I didn’t discover any practical effects. That’s frequently the case with Google though: It sometimes takes them a bit to work out the kinks of a new feature.
